PBW13: A time to give…
by SassyMom on Dec.13, 2009, under About Me, Kids, Pixel Bug Weekend, Social Awareness
Christmas has always been a time for giving but I find giving more meaningful when you extend it to the less fortunate. This weekend, my son’s class decided to hold one of its Christmas get-together by visiting and White Cross Children’s Home. White Cross is a safe have for children, ages 0-6 years, of indigent families, unwed mothers, victims of rape or incest, prisoners, physically or mentally incapacitated parents, tuberculosis patients or those of unknown parents.
This charitable gesture was made possible with the help of our dedicated co-parents from my son’s class. A noble undertaking purely out of volunteerism from people who just plainly want to give back something to society. I signed for this activity not only for its benevolence but more importantly for my son’s awareness. I want him to see how blessed we are and that there are people who are on the other side of the fence that need much help and assistance.
The boys prepared a program for the kids at White Cross and they also get to play games with them. My son enjoyed a round of Statue Dance with one of the kids …

Hubs did his share of entertaining some of the kids. It made me truly proud … kids really love him and he is likewise very fond of children.

McDonald’s was kind enough to donate toys for the children and provide their very cute mascot. With the help of one of my co-parent who was “cool” enough to act as Santa, we distributed toys to each of the children housed in the orphanage. Simple things that brings abundant joy to these children. The twinkle in their eyes are truly priceless. This is what joy is all about, no price tags.

It was indeed a very meaningful weekend for me and my family. A gesture so simple that brings a lot of significance and the lives of these unfortunate little angels.

I think this is a great way of teaching our children the value of giving and love for others. Nakakatuwa kasi both you and ur hubby are there to accompany them, it sends a strong message to the kids and other parents as well.
My PBW is up too, have a great week ahead

That’s a very selfless thing to do
I think it’s important that even at a young age, children are taught and exposed that life isn’t a bed of roses, that there are people who are not as fortunate, the importance of giving & of sharing. Yung mga ganyang bata ang lalaki na mabait at hindi madamot.

Finally I was able to join your PWB! I love this as I love joining photo meme.
Most companies and schools opted to do charity work instead of holding the annual Xmas parties. I support this also.

I once had experienced doing this when I was still in P.I sa Choir namin & it feels really good when you share something to others.I guess this is a great thing on how to teach our children by sharing a little even during this holiday season.I really love your post Mommy.
