PBWeekend4: House Construction
by SassyMom on Oct.11, 2009, under Architecture, Business, Pixel Bug Weekend, Property & Construction
Weekend was as usual full of activities for me and my family. The highlight of my weekend was a trip to my hubby’s construction site. Hubby is an architect by profession and he’s into construction, apart from his day job. His latest project is a residential house. Hubs usually takes me to his project in three phases : just before it starts, right before its finished and after the homeowners have transferred.
Since I am a layman in terms of construction, those phases are the only times I can truly appreciate the beauty of his work. The photo below represents the “right before its finished” phase. Only a week more before he turns it over to the owner.

If there’s one thing I can truly be proud of is that Hubby never sacrifices the quality of his work. Below is a picture of one of his workers finishing of a varnished door — the almost finished product is at the right side.

PBWeekend: Amidst the torrent of Typhoon Ondoy

As typhoon Ondoy hit the Philippines this weekend, I was unaware of how destructive this typhoon will be when I woke up Saturday morning. To me it was supposed to be a special day, the day I am opening a new business venture – a loading station. I even invited a priest, who has been a long time friend to bless the store. In everything I do, I ask the Lord for blessing and this is no exception.

Had I known, I would not have pushed through with my store opening. After the blessing, we got out and headed home but to no avail, all the surrounding streets were flooded, waist high. With my friend priest still with me, we decided to go back inside store – the safest place where we can be at that moment. Four grueling hours after, when the continuous rain fall suddenly weakened, we decided to brave the streets, praying that we can find a safe passage home and we did.
As I came home, that’s when I realized how blessed we were. Watching the news, I was taken aback at how disastrous the typhoon was… it was as if the great flood during the time of Noah. With all that was happening, I lit up a candle and said my prayer of thanks– for sparing my family from harm, and a prayer of plea for the storm to calm down and for those people affected by this tragedy, that they be rescued.
[caption id="attachment_128" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="In front of UERM, along Aurora Blvd. Taken by my brother who was trapped there"]As we continue with our daily lives, let us not forget the people who, up to this very moment, are still experiencing the damage brought about by this natural disaster. Join me as I offer a prayer …
Eternal Father, you are the God of Compassion, we turn to you with our prayers for those families who were deeply affected by this calamity. Stunned by the recent events, we ask yo to calm the storm that threatens us. Send your spirit upon all the people so that they may feel the comfort of your love. We pray for those lives that were lost and bring hope to all those who have survived.
For all those who were spared, let us open our hearts to the cries of help, may we respond with generosity and compassion, remembering that You have always been there to alleviate our sufferings.
We ask this in the sweet name of Jesus, Amen.
